Jennifer Aniston’s 80/20 Nutrition Plan Includes Protein, One M&M

Health and Wellness scoured Aniston's interviews to compile a list of healthy foods that make up 80% of her diet.

Inside Nutrition & Fitness

From the Smart way she hydrates, to how she ePVOLVED her workouts, when Emmy and Golden Globe winner Jennifer Aniston shares how she maintains her health and wellness, the world goes all E.F. Hutton. IFKYK.

Just think about how many social posts and articles her “perfect salad” generated a decade ago when Living Proof allowed her to drive its Instagram bus for the day. The melange of bulgar, cucumber, parsley, mint, red onion, garbanzo beans, feta and pistachios likely produced as many copycats as her 90s “Rachel” haircut.

Earlier this year, the 56-year-old told “Allure” that her toned physique, which includes PVOLVE workouts, and her approach to nutrition include some indulgences.

“You’ve got to live your life. No restrictions – except hard drugs. It’s the 80/20 approach,” she told the magazine. “Eighty percent healthy living and then 20% is: Go have a martini, go have your pizza and burgers, and stay up late with your friends. There’s a balance.”

Although “The Morning Show” star disclosed some of her faves on the 20% list, it’s likely a sizable portion of her nearly 45 million Insta followers wanted details of what the healthy choices are beyond her go-to salad. Well, Health and Wellness scoured interviews for information about the “Friends” alum’s nutrient-rich diet and compiled some of it here.

Three Squares

Aniston starts her day with coffee and a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, mixed in room temperature water, according to Women’s Health. Byrdie reported that the Smartwater spokesperson adds a third beverage – a shake with cinnamon and maca powder.

Maca, according to a National Institute of Health publication, has antioxidant effects and anti-inflammatory properties. Additionally, it has the potential to combat fatigue and enhance fertility.

Cinnamon’s health benefits include reducing cardiovascular disease risks, possessing compounds that are anticancer, antidiabetic and showing activity against Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases, research shows.

The breakfast plate of the “The Murder Mystery” co-star usually includes eggs and avocado, she told Byrdie.

During a TODAY show interview, the actress said her weekday lunch and dinner choices are “boring.” She incorporates salads, vegetables and protein. Maintaining a low-carb trend, Aniston occasionally opts for a chicken burger with lettuce as a “bun.”

To ensure her “boring” meals are tasty, Aniston told TODAY that she uses a variety of spices and vinegar to flavor her meals. “Stuff like that will create a taste that is so delicious, where you’re not just dousing everything with salt and butter or olive oil to make it taste good,” she told the morning show team.

The Snack List

As a spokesperson for Skinny Pop, it’s a given that popcorn makes Aniston’s list. She told TODAY that shakes and protein bars are among her other nutritious options.

For variety, an apple with nuts or almond butter provides Aniston with healthy fats and a complex carbohydrate, Byrdie reported, along with cut veggies and boiled eggs.

And when she’s stressed, a potato chip. Yes, a potato chip. The same goes for candy.  One, yes, one M&M. That’s what she told InStyle, but she didn’t specify whether it was plain, peanut, blue or yellow.

That 20%: Weekends and Cravings

It’s no surprise that the woman satisfied by a dime-sized piece of candy and one sliver of fried potato doesn’t overindulge when it’s 20% time.

“I give myself days where I can have whatever I want. I don’t deprive myself,” Aniston told TODAY.com.

Various media outlets reported that Aniston’s weekend and craving choices are burgers, pizza, wine, carbonara and martinis. Previously, she told TODAY that Mexican food was on her cheat list.

“All the stuff that’s savory,” she said then. “I’m not a sweets person. I don’t go for ice cream or cakes. I definitely have a savory tooth.”

And that just might explain the one M&M.
